Project Characteristics

The MPLS20 Project is funded by the BMWi and is carried out in co-operation with Nexans Deutschland, Brugg Rohrsystems and the Technical University of Berlin. The aim of the project is the development of an innovative concept for an offshore LNG transfer system, based on vacuum insulated, flexible cryogenic pipes with inner diameter of 16-inch up to 20-inch. Within the project IMPaC developed an innovative tandem ‘Mooring Bay’ concept for LNG transfer system operable in harsh environmental conditions up to Hs=5.5 m. This new and patented concept allows cargo transfer between floating LNG terminals and LNG carriers in tandem configuration with safe and reliable – fully aerial – handling of flexible transfer pipes and its standard couplings (QCDC and ERC) which makes the system especially suitable for use under ice conditions.
